The City is completing a comprehensive review of the city’s downtown parking system that will include an analysis of parking demand, the identification of needs and opportunities, and the delivery of actionable recommendations. To learn more about the parking study, click here.
The City of Wilson is developing a Comprehensive Greenways and Trails Plan!
This plan is expected to be completed in Spring 2026 and will establish a vision for the City’s future greenway network. There are multiple opportunities to get involved and provide your feedback. For more information, refer to the sections below.
*Note: This plan focuses on greenways and trails within the City of Wilson. Areas outside of municipal jurisdiction in Wilson County will be considered for greenway connections but not included in this plan.
What is the purpose of the plan?
The plan will establish a vision, recommended network, and implementation strategies for a comprehensive system of connected greenways and trails across the City of Wilson. The project will document and synthesize recommendations from previous plans, ongoing projects, and state and national best practices into an action-oriented plan built on community and stakeholder feedback. It will also identify priority projects and include preliminary cost estimates.
What is the timeline of the plan?
The project formally began in August 2025 and is expected to conclude in Spring 2026. Public and stakeholder engagement will take place between October and December 2025, and a final plan report will be completed in March.

2043 Comprehensive Plan
In April 2024, City Council adopted the Growing Together: The 2043 Comprehensive Plan to update and replace the previous 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
The 2043 Comprehensive Plan supports a renewed vision for the future of the community, ensuring that Wilson will develop and grow in a way that will continue to enhance the community’s overall quality of life.
