Special Olympics of Wilson County

Ages: 8 & Up
Local Game Events: Soccer, Basketball, Bowling, Track & Field, Volleyball
Registration: 1 month prior to event.

This program is offered to persons with intellectual disabilities to build skills, show courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of friendships.

Wilson County Local Games Dates:

Soccer: October 10 9:00am, Gillette Soccer Complex
Basketball: January 29 (Elementary Age) & January 30 (Middle School Age – Adult) 9:00am, Recreation Park Center
Track & Field: April 2 9:00am, Hunt High School
Volleyball: May 14 9:00am, Recreation Park Center

Special Olympic Team Practices
Anyone with intellectual disabilities interested in joining the team or practicing more can participate in the following sports practices:

Unified Kicks Soccer

Ages 7 & Up (Age as of January 1, 2020)

Program Description:

Games played primarily on Saturdays at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex (3238 Corbett Ave.). Games held at 10:00am on April 18, April 25, May 2, & May 9. This program is a Unified Soccer Program to incorportate soccer players with special needs and without special needs into one team. Special Needs Open Gym

All Ages
Recreation Park Center opens from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday for Special Olympics athletes to practice their skills for upcoming Special Olympic events.

Fee: Free to Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities.


Fitness Fun

Fitness Fun Exercise Class
Class is offered Free for Special Needs Participants

30 Minutes of FUN Exercise

Classes go from October – May

Class Times:
Monday & Wednesdays: 10:00am – 10:30am
Tuesday & Thursdays: 4:15pm – 4:45pm

Weight, Blood Pressure, and BMI will be checked on each participant
Each participant will have staff/parent assist in exercise class
Nutritional Snack Offered
