What is Pickleball?
The Basics
• The fastest growing sport in USA!
• A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
• Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.
• Played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
• Played as doubles or singles.

Down East Senior Games

 

 

It is time for the 2020 Down East Senior Games!

 The Down East Senior Games (DESG) are composed of five counties: Nash, Wilson, Edgecombe, Halifax, and Northampton. DESG was established in 1983 with a vision to create a year-round health promotion and wellness education program for adults 50 years of age and better. Participants will compete in their own age and sex categories in increments of five years. Events take place in Rocky Mount, Tarboro, and Wilson, North Carolina.

 Sports Include: badminton, basketball, basketball shooting, billiards, bocce, cornhole, croquet, cycling, discus throw, football throw, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, race-walking, running long jump, shot put, shuffleboard, softball, softball throw, standing long jump, swimming, table tennis, tennis and track events.

Performing Arts Includes: comedy/drama, solo dance, small group dance, large group dance, solo instrumental, group instrumental, solo vocal, group vocal small group line dance and large group line dance.

Literary Arts Includes: essays, short stories, life experiences, and poetry.

Visual Arts Includes: acrylics, oil, drawing, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and watercolor.

Heritage Arts Includes: basket weaving, china painting, crocheting/knitting, jewelry, needlework, quilting, stained glass, tole/decorative painting, pottery, weaving, woodcarving and woodworking.

Most events will be held in the 2020 Host City Tarboro. However, some events will be held in Wilson & Rocky Mount!

Got To Be NC Festival Bus Trip

Ages:50+

Join us for a trip to the Got To Be NC Festival at the NC State Fairgrounds on Friday, May 15. The bus/van will pickup festival goers at Reid Street Center & Recreation Park Centers. Departing from Wilson around 10:30am and departing Raleigh around 5:00pm. 

Must Pre-Register for a seat on bus/van by April 24.  

Travel Fee City Resident:  $12.00
Travel Fee Non Resident:  $18.00

Admission to event is free. However, some of the events and activities cost money or require a special admission.

NC State Fair Trip

Ages:50+

Join us for a trip to the NC State Fair on Tuesday, October 22.  The bus/van will pickup fair goers at Reid Street and Recreation Park Centers.  Departing from Wilson at 7:30am and returning at 5:00pm.

Trip Date: October 22
7:30am – 5:00pm

Travel Fee City Resident:  $12.00
Travel Fee Non Resident:  $18.00

Participants under the age of 65 will have to purchase their own ticket to enter the fair!  $10 ticket at the gate or $8 before fair starts at local area Food Lion grocery stores!  Bus fee DOES NOT include fair entrance ticket!

Senior Balance & Stretch

Tuesdays 10:00am - 10:45am 
Thursdays 9:15 am – 10:00am

Balance & Stretch Class is designed to help you become stronger and improve balance. The movements taught in class focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knee and hip joints, while improving your reaction time. This class is designed for fall prevention and is suitable for nearly every fitness level. It can be adapted depending on the skill of individual participants. A chair may be used for balance and support.

All fitness levels can participate.  Ages 60+

  • 60+ Non Residents: $2.00

Loyal Leisure Senior Citizens Club

Ages:  55 & Over

Loyal Leisure meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am at Reid Street Center.  Our members are a spirited group that participates in field trips, senior games, talent shows, festivals, and much more.   This club is also a member of the NC Association of Senior Citizen Clubs - District 1-A.

Fee:  $30.00 (annually)
