As a part of the Human Relations Awards and Celebration, awards on behalf of the Wilson Committee for Persons with Disabilities (WCPD) will be presented. A part of the mission of the WCPD is serving as a communications link between persons with disabilities of the Wilson community and all organizations and agencies whose primary functions or activities are to offer services and assistance to persons with disabilities. These awards will honor those who serve, work, or volunteer in such capacities.

Nominations will be received in six categories. Nominees must be a resident of Wilson County or employed by a business/agency in Wilson County. A description of each category follows:
«Employee of the Year
In what ways has the nominee distinguished him/herself in being an employee with disabilities? Give examples of how the nominee has overcome or worked with disabilities within your company. Provide examples of how he/she has raised awareness within your company about the disabled. Please provide specific examples or stories of how the nominees has been a great employee.
«Employer of the Year
Please describe how the Employer tries to hire disabled citizens. How does this employer distinguish him/herself in the community as welcoming atmosphere for challenged workers? How long has the employer been in business? How long has the employer been employing persons with disabilities? What are procedures and sources for outreach and recruitment of employees with disabilities?
«Advocate of the Year
In what ways has the nominee distinguished him/herself in being an advocate for persons with disabilities? Give examples of how the nominee has raised awareness and improved the quality of life for disabled citizens of Wilson. How has the nominee been involved in the community, projects, events, or activities related to disabilities? Please provide specific examples.
«Educator of the Year
Briefly describe the accomplishments of the nominee as it relates to promoting opportunities for students or persons with disabilities. Describe the career of the nominee. How has the nominee been involved in the community or beyond the school grounds? Please provide examples of the nominee’s exceptional work and advocacy for persons with disabilities.
«Professional of the Year
Briefly describe the accomplishments of the nominee as it relates to promoting opportunities for persons with disabilities. Describe the career of the nominee. Give examples of projects, events, implementation of policy or procedures that have improved the quality of life for the disabled.
«Paraprofessional of the Year
Describe how the nominee assists with persons/students with disabilities. Describe the career of the nominee; their involvement with students, their families and/or the community. Provide examples of the nominees work and passion for persons with disabilities.
To submit a nomination, please complete the nomination form and clearly check the box for the correct category. A person can only be nominated for one category. A nomination may be submitted by a professional, co-worker, supervisor, friend, or family member. If nomination is by a family member, a second letter by a non-family member is required. Make sure you include all correct contact information for you and the nominee. If you are not sure of your nominee’s contact information, please confirm before submitting your application. This information is how we will reach the nominee and contact you, if necessary.
A nomination letter will need to accompany your nomination form. The information provided in your nomination letter is crucial for the selection process. The more details and examples you can provide, the better you help the selection committee in understanding your nomination. Please provide specific stories, examples, and details about the nominee in the workplace, school, or agency. Feel free to include pictures. A vague or simple letter reduces the chances of your nominee being selected. Only one letter is required, however multiple letters of support are welcome. Incomplete nominations or letters that do not provide the required information will not be considered.
