The Community Improvement Division works every day to help make Wilson a safer, stronger, and more attractive place to live. Our team partners with property owners to improve or remove unsafe and neglected structures, using state and local codes to guide our work. We focus on areas like minimum housing standards, commercial property upkeep, and nuisance cleanup.

We typically address properties that are:

  • Abandoned or blighted
  • Severely damaged or falling apart
  • Unsafe or at risk of collapse
  • Poorly maintained or neglected

Our specialists and special project manager take a proactive approach, working directly in neighborhoods to reduce hazards and improve quality of life. Whether it's through renovation, demolition, or redevelopment, our goal is to support stronger, safer communities across Wilson.
