Susan G. Kellum
Council District 5

Susan Kellum was elected in November 2025 to represent District 5 on the City Council. After building a successful career as the owner and operator of marketing and packaging companies, she brought her expertise to local and state government.

Kellum served the City of Wilson for more than a decade, leading downtown marketing, communications, and major community events during a transformative period of placemaking and revitalization. Her work helped support efforts that positioned Vollis Simpson’s whirligigs as a catalyst for downtown economic growth.

She also serves as Project Manager with the NC Main Street & Rural Planning Center in the North Carolina Department of Commerce, overseeing an EDA-funded initiative to enhance the Main to Main Trail, a virtual tourism trail connecting North Carolina’s 72 Main Street communities. In that role, she travels statewide to lead workshops on destination development and storytelling for small businesses and Main Street leaders, and to provide professional media assets for use by the communities in their digital and traditional marketing. 

Kellum holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Meredith College and studied writing and editing at North Carolina State University. She has a strong commitment to nonprofit and community service, with leadership and service roles that have included the Wilson Hub of Dress for Success-Triangle, Wilson Rotary, Imagination Station Science Museum, Wilson Education Partnership, Edna Boykin Cultural Center | Wilson Arts, St. John CDC, and the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum.
