City Manager Grant Goings to Lead Statewide Association

Wilson City Manager Grant Goings was recently elected President of the North Carolina City and County Management Association. Goings will serve a one-year term leading the state association dedicated to developing and supporting competent, ethical-driven, professional leadership for local governments across the state.

“The North Carolina City and County Management Association has meant so much to me throughout my career,” said Goings. “We are one of the largest organizations of this type in the country, and North Carolina is known nationally for good local government. It is a high honor to be selected by my peers from across the state to lead our organization, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”

Goings has served as Wilson City Manager since 2005 and has 25 years of experience in the profession. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University and served as president of the ASU Local Government Alumni Association, Chairman of the Board for ElectriCities of NC, and many local boards including two terms as President of the United Way of Wilson County. Prior to serving as President of NCCCMA, he completed three years on the Executive Committee, serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Second Vice President and First Vice President.

Goings is the fifth Wilson City Manager to lead NCCCMA since its creation in the 1930s. F.T. Green, Jack Manard, Bruce Boyette and Ed Wyatt, all former Wilson City Managers, also led the organization at one time.
