City Improvement Projects

Goldsboro Street Improvements

City crews have been hard at work improving Goldsboro Street, both below ground and above ground. Below ground, we’ve replaced water and sewer service lines, improved the stormwater infrastructure, moved all the electric lines from overhead to underground, and added natural gas lines.

Above ground, we are replacing all the sidewalks, adding new decorative lighting and new street trees with lighting.

All of these improvements are making way for new development in Historic Downtown Wilson. The circa 1950s infrastructure that was in place needed upgrades to allow the new projects we expect to see in the next few years.

We understand that the road closures are an inconvenience. We expect the work to be completed by the end of July. Until then, we will close the 100 and 200 blocks of Goldsboro Street daily from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Glendale and Medical Park Drive

Work will begin next Monday, March 12 on stormwater improvements to help with flooding at the intersection of Glendale Dr, Katharine Ct and Medical Park. The project will include upgrading storm drain pipe in the intersection, raising the intersection slightly and repaving the streets. The improvements are being made to help eliminate long time flooding concerns in the intersection.
Traffic will be impacted while the improvements are made, starting on March 12 and finishing by mid-July. During that time, some lanes may be closed but the intersection will remain partially open. The map below shows where traffic will be impacted. We will provide updates once the project starts.
