The City of Wilson Finance department has once again been recognized for excellence in financial planning and transparency, earning the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

This marks the 35th consecutive year the City of Wilson has received the national recognition. This achievement that places Wilson among a small group of municipalities with one of the longest-running records of excellence in budget presentation. Only seven other municipalities have maintained the award for more than 35 years.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes governmental entities that meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The program evaluates budgets as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool, helping make complex financial information more accessible to elected officials, staff and the community.

The recognition represents the continued work of the City’s finance team and departments across the organization to develop a budget that clearly communicates Wilson’s priorities, financial position and plans for the year ahead.
