Wintery weather may be on the way

Post Date:01/16/2026 4:51 PM

Wilson’s first winter precipitation of 2026 could be on the way this weekend. The forecast is still uncertain, but we could see a small amount of snow or a wintery mix throughout the day on Sunday. We do not expect an impact on city services from this storm, but we’re ready to respond if conditions change.

The next several days will bring some of the coldest temperatures of the season. Lows in the 20s are forecast through next week. Keep these tips in mind as temperatures dip:

  • To prevent pipes from freezing, cold water should be turned on to drip from any faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing. If a house will be unoccupied during the next few days, the heat should be kept on set to a temperature no lower than 55° F.
  • Bring pets inside, especially during the cold nights.
  • Check on elderly neighbors and family members.
  • Heating systems must work harder during below-freezing temperatures. Keep your thermostat on the lowest comfortable temperature. Experts recommend 68 degrees during the winter.
