UPDATE 12/8 at 5 p.m.
We’re seeing a wintery mix and some snow in Wilson this afternoon. The Winter Weather Advisory for Wilson County continues until Tuesday at noon. We are still not expecting much of an impact from this system. Temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight which could cause icy conditions Tuesday morning.
The Recreation Centers and outdoor recreation facilities will close at 5 p.m. on Monday. Tuesday trash/recycle routes will run a bit later than usual depending on conditions.
Use caution while traveling this evening and Tuesday morning. Icy road conditions can develop quickly, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. If you don’t need to travel, please remain home.
If travel is necessary, follow these few tips to stay safe:
- Reduce your speed to maintain better control.
- Increase the distance between your vehicle and others to allow for longer stopping times.
- Brake gently and steer smoothly to prevent skidding.
Extreme cold can cause pipes to freeze, which can cause damage to your home. Use these tips to prevent frozen pipes:
- Open cabinet doors to circulate warmer air around plumbing
- Let cold water drip from the faucet at a trickle
- Don’t set your temperature below 55 degrees
Stay safe, Wilson!
MONDAY, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.
A little bit of snow could be in store for Monday afternoon and evening as a quick moving winter storm moves through North Carolina. Wilson County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from Monday at 7 a.m. until noon on Tuesday. The current forecast has Wilson receiving from a trace to up to one inch of snow.
If Wilson sees wintery precipitation, it isn’t expected to last very long. We are not expecting major impacts from this weather system. Temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight on Monday into Tuesday morning. Any roads or surfaces that are wet after sundown will freeze, which could cause icy conditions Tuesday morning.
Streets crews are monitoring conditions throughout the day. Streets are not being pre-treated due to rain forecast before any winter weather. Salt brine tanks are ready if treating becomes necessary.
