November 6, 2025 City Council Meeting Recap
The City Council met for its informal breakfast meeting on November 6. City Council meets on the third Thursday evening each month throughout the year, and the morning meetings are held on the first Thursday morning most months, with breaks in January, July, August and December. The meetings typically are used for discussion items and for City Council to provide broad direction to staff, but the Council can take action when needed.
Wilson Mall Update
City Manager Rodger Lentz updated Council Members on the progress of Wilson Mall demolition. City staff is working to demolish the building so it can be ready for redevelopment. Asbestos removal will begin soon and will take 30-45 days. The bid package for the actual demolition is being prepared, but demolition cannot happen until after the asbestos removal is complete. Staff expects to have a contract ready for approval by February 2026. After demolition is complete, the city can market the 20-acre portion of the property for redevelopment. If these steps continue as planned, the mall should be demolished by Summer 2026.
The city owns the property outlined in blue shown on the map. The portion of the property not outlined in blue is still owned by the mall’s former owner. The portion of the property with the actual mall structure is planned to be redeveloped. The area beyond Parkwood Plaza is planned to be a water quality park in the future.

Stadium/Superblock Update
Staff provided an update on infrastructure work near the stadium site. Douglas Street will be rebuilt along with improvements to the nearby water and sewer lines. Also, work is needed for grading, landscaping and lighting for greenspace and a playground between the stadium and the Whirligig Park. The city has received grant funding for the playground equipment and all partners are pleased with the design. The playground will be open by the first Wilson Warbirds game in April 2026.
Council Members also asked about progress on the parking lots to support the stadium. Surface parking lot construction is beginning near the stadium, and options for a shuttle are also being explored. Gameday street closures, preferred routes and parking options will be provided before Opening Day.

City Council’s next meeting is Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m.
