Family movies return to Whirligig Park in May
Popular films will be shown Friday nights under stars
Friday night movies return next weekend to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in Historic Downtown Wilson, with a mix of animated and live action films for people of all ages.
The Pop-Up Cinema Series, co-sponsored by the Cucalorus film festival in Wilmington, will feature four movie nights in Wilson:
- “Paddington 2,” Friday, May 10.
- “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Friday, May 17.
- “Mary Poppins Returns,” Friday, May 24.
- “Incredibles 2,” Friday, May 31.
The movies are all free to attend, and families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and spend the evening on the lawn. Kettle corn and drinks will be for sale. The events begin at 7 p.m. and movies will begin shortly after sunset, or after 8 p.m. this month.
“Paddington 2” is a 2017 film that continues the adventures of a little brown bear that lives with a London family. Paddington is trying to raise money to buy a birthday gift in this movie. The movie is 90 minutes long, stars Hugh Grant, and has a 100% Fresh rating from critics on RottenTomatoes.com.
“Ralph Breaks the Internet” is a 2018 Disney animated film about a video game character and a young girl having online adventures. It features the voices of John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, is around 110 minutes long and has an 88% Fresh rating from critics.
“Mary Poppins Returns” is a 2018 Disney film that is a follow-up to the 1964 movie starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. This time the title character is played by Emily Blunt and she comes back to help a new generation of the Banks family. The musical fantasy film is 130 minutes long and has a 79% Fresh rating from critics.
“Incredibles 2” is a 2018 Pixar animated film about a family with super powers. Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunt voice the parents, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. The movie is 2 hours long and has a 94% Fresh rating from critics.
