Wilson ranked among best small cities to start a business
Survey puts Wilson 10th national, tops in NC
A survey released this week found that Wilson is one of the best places in the country to start a business and grow it.
WalletHub’s “2019 Best & Worst Small Cities to Start a Business” ranks Wilson 10th among more than 1,200 cities across the U.S. and tops in North Carolina, based on 18 key metrics.
The report looked at factors such as the cost of living, the availability of labor and how educated and skilled those workers are, accessibility of investors, and how successful other small businesses have been. Each of the 18 metrics was graded on a 100-point scale.
Business people can sometimes have a greater chance of success in a small city, according to WalletHub. Some benefits include lower overhead costs, stronger relationships with customers and the potential to become a big fish in a little pond.
Possible disadvantages might include limited industry options, a less diverse customer base, and difficulty attracting and keeping top talent.
The survey was released Monday, April 22, and can be found here: https://wallethub.com/edu/best-small-cities-to-start-a-business/20180/
Other North Carolina cities among the top 100 are Salisbury, 16th; Sanford, 27th; Asheville, 39th; Mooresville, 60th; New Bern, 83rd; Monroe, 91st; Gastonia, 94th; and Thomasville, 97th. Only cities between 25,000 and 100,000 were considered.
