Sunday in the Rose Garden

Sunday in the Rose Garden will be Sunday, May 17, allowing people to enjoy one of North Carolina’s largest public rose gardens with music and refreshments.

The event will be from 2-4 p.m. at the garden in front of the City of Wilson’s Charles Pittman Operations Center, 1800 Herring Avenue. The event could be cancelled if the weather is rainy; check the city’s social media accounts for updates.

The free event will include musical performances by Wilson’s own Bill Myers, who was a founding member of The Monitors and continues to be a well-known musician. There will also be rose-pruning demonstrations, children’s activities, a flag ceremony, door prizes and light refreshments.

This annual event has been going on for more than 20 years and has included arts competitions or garden hat contests in the past, but the board decided this year to keep this year’s gathering a chance to enjoy beautiful roses with music.

However, artists are welcome to come and create art in the garden during the event.

The Wilson Rose Garden was created by volunteers and is still maintained by volunteer deadheaders throughout the growing season. The garden is a public garden that is free to visit and generally in bloom from April until November. It is available for rental for weddings or other special events; call 399-7530 for more information.
