The City of Wilson’s Human Relations Commission and the Wilson Committee for Persons with Disabilities invite the community to a special evening of celebration at the annual Human Relations Banquet. This year’s event marks the 55th anniversary of the Human Relations Commission and will honor individuals and organizations who serve as “Beacons of Light” for the community.
Guests will hear inspiring stories about volunteers and local groups who are making a meaningful difference in Wilson. During the evening, nominees and winners for the Human Relations Awards will be recognized for their commitment to service, inclusion, and community leadership.
The banquet will also feature keynote speaker Theatrice “Theo” McClammy, a nationally recognized public servant and former City of Wilson Human Relations Director (1996–1999). During his time in Wilson, McClammy helped expand the office’s outreach to neighborhoods and strengthened efforts in fair housing, youth engagement, and disability advocacy. His return as guest speaker is especially meaningful as the commission celebrates more than five decades of work in the community.
Today, McClammy serves as Program Manager for New Hanover County and brings more than 25 years of experience in human relations and community development. His career has included leadership roles in Chesapeake, Fayetteville, and Wilson, as well as decades of service as Executive Director of Onslow Community Outreach. Among his many honors are the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the Order of the Caduceus, and several national recognitions for innovation in public service.
