First Friday events set August-October
Thursday, June 26, 2014
Make plans to attend First Fridays on the Lawn events beginning in August this year.
Typically, the monthly concert series runs July through October, but this year the first Friday of July falls on Independence Day. The Wilson Tobs are planning a big event that evening to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the City’s Fleming Stadium so event planners decided to avoid a conflict.
The three 2014 concert dates will be:
- Friday, Aug. 1, Country Music Night featuring the Darrell Harwood Band. This will also be the local celebration of National Night Out with activities involving local law enforcement.
- Friday, Sept. 5, Rock Music Night featuring PUSHH, a band from Charlotte.
- Friday, Oct. 3, Rhythm & Blues night featuring the Carolina Soul Band.
All First Friday on the Lawn concerts are held 6-9 p.m. in front of the Wilson County Public Library, 249 W. Nash St.
There will be other entertainment, children's activities, community information, food and drink for sale, and other things to do. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The event is free and open to the public.
In case of rain, the event will be relocated to the Boykin Center.
The Human Relations Office and Human Relations Commission sponsor the annual First Fridays on the Lawn concert series to celebrate “Diversity through Music.”
