Wilson Energy chosen for Golden Tree Award

Monday, March 17, 2014

The American Public Power Association has honored Wilson Energy for its efforts to protect and plant forested areas with its Golden Tree Award.

In the announcement earlier this month, APPA President Mark Crisson said, “Your tree-planting program is an impressive one and demonstrates public power’s commitment to improving the environment, educating customers and beautifying the community.”

Recently, Wilson was named a Tree City USA, the 32nd time the city has been awarded that distinction from the Arbor Day Foundation.

There are two tree-related events this week. Mayor Bruce Rose will read a proclamation for Arbor Day during City Council meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall. The meeting will be broadcast live on Wilson’s XChannel 8.

Then there will be an Arbor Day celebration Friday, beginning at 4 p.m. at Warren Street Park, located at the corner of Walnut and Warren streets. Mayor Rose will help with the ceremonial planting of a tree at the park. Also, 100 dogwood seedlings will be given away to attendees.
