Veterans Day program planned for Sunday

The Wilson Committee on Patriotism will hold its annual Veterans Day Program this Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m., in the square in front of the Wilson County Courthouse.

The event will include the unveiling and dedication of the Purple Heart Monument, an addition to the other veterans memorials in the square. Jim Casti, National Welfare Officer, Military Order of the Purple Heart, will speak.

Timothy Wipperman, Director of Veterans Affairs, N.C. Department of Administration, will be the keynote speaker.

Other participants in the ceremony will be Mayor Bruce Rose; members of American Legion Posts 13 and 17 and their auxiliaries; Chairman Eddie Price and the Committee on Patriotism; and the Junior ROTC units from Fike, Hunt and Beddingfield high schools.

The Carolina Military Preservation Association will present restored military vehicles. Veterans will receive a hotdog lunch.

The event is free and open to the public to attend.

Wilson city offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, for observation of the Veterans Day holiday. There will be no trash or recyclable pickups that day. Monday's routes will be run Tuesday, and Tuesday routes will be run Wednesday.
