25 Years: City of Wilson Earns Excellence Award for Financial Reporting

Thursday, May 31, 2012

The City of Wilson has once again been honored for the way it prepares financial reports and provides that information to the public.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has announced that Wilson will receive the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) for the 25th year in a row.

The CAFR award shows the City has gone beyond minimum accounting standards and includes multiple years worth of additional financial information. The award also acknowledges the City has made its financial reports open and available to the public in easy-to-understand language.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting,” said Stephen J. Gauthier, GFOA Director. “Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

“This award evidences the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and recognizes individual governments that succeed in achieving this goal,” said Kim Hands, interim director of finance. “The City of Wilson is proud to have achieved this level of Financial Excellence for 25 consecutive years.”

The City posts its annual budget proposal and capital improvement plans to the Financial Information Systems section of its website.

The Government Finance Association is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
