First Friday on the Lawn will be Friday, Sept. 5, 6-9 p.m., in front of the Wilson County Public Library, 249 W. Nash St. The family event is free and open to the public.

Each month First Friday has a different theme. This month is rock & roll and the headlining act will be PUSHH, a five-member band from Charlotte. they play a variety of music from different eras, including songs by the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Neon Trees, Maroon 5 and others.

There will be other entertainment, children's activities, community information, food and drink for sale, and other things to do. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs. In case of rain, the event will be relocated to the Boykin Center.

The Human Relations Office and Human Relations Commission sponsor the annual First Fridays on the Lawn concert series to celebrate “Diversity through Music.” The free public concerts, typically held on the first Fridays of July-October, bring together neighbors using music as the bridge builder. The event often includes live bands, family friendly activities, community booths and performances by local dance studios.
