JOB TITLE:  RECREATION CENTERS SUPERVISOR
 
JOB SUMMARY:  This position develops, implements, and manages recreation programs and facilities at municipal recreation centers.
 
MAJOR DUTIES:
Manages the day to day operations of the Reid Street Center and at satellite centers, including swimming pool and recreation fields.
Trains, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.Plans, develops, organizes, and supervises a wide range of leisure activities, including organized programs, self directed programs, athletic programs, and special events.
Develops and supervises programs for special groups in the community, including families, special populations, pre-schoolers, minorities, and senior citizens.
Purchases and delivers supplies and materials.
Participates in active public relations programs, attends community group meetings.
Develops and administers annual budget,
Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal recreation programming.
Knowledge of the city’s recreation programs and facilities.
Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Skill in the operation of computers and other standard office equipment.
Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
Skill in oral and written communication.
 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:  The Assistant Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions.  The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
 
GUIDELINES:  Guidelines include department standard operating procedures, and relevant city, state, and federal codes, laws, and regulations.  These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. 
 
COMPLEXITY:  The work consists of varied administrative and technical duties.  The supervision of multiple facilities contributes to the complexity of the position.
 
SCOPE AND EFFECT:  The purpose of this position is to manage the facilities and programs of municipal recreation centers.  Successful performance facilitates the provision of recreation activities, programs, and facilities to the citizens of the City of Wilson.
 
PERSONAL CONTACTS:  Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, vendors, and the general public.
 
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:  Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, motivate personnel, and negotiate or settle matters.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking.  The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work is typically performed in an office. The employee may be exposed to much noise.
 
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:  The position has direct supervision over Recreation Centers Coordinator (1), and Recreation Centers Assistant (2).
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
