JOB TITLE: PUBLIC SERVICES DISPATCHER
JOB SUMMARY: This position performs customer service duties for the department and dispatches requests for service to appropriate division and crew.
Answers telephone calls and greets visitors; directs customers to appropriate personnel.
Operates a two-way radio base station; dispatches service calls and work orders to personnel; makes inquiries, relays information, and receives requests via radio; maintains communication with field employees.
Enters payroll information into computer; maintains personnel attendance and absentee records; files accident reports; processes sick leave and other personnel documents.
Mails forms to handicapped or disabled residents for backyard garbage pick up service.
Processes trailer rentals for citizens.
Assists in the typing of the budget.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Assistant Public Services Director - Administration assigns work in terms of general instructions. Completed work is spot-checked for accuracy, compliance with procedures, and the nature and propriety of final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related radio dispatching and secretarial duties. Dealing with dissatisfied customers contributes to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to provide dispatching and secretarial support to the department. Successful performance in this position facilitates department operations, and affects the image of the city.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years
