Nuisance Abatement Technician (PPT)

JOB SUMMARY:
Performs responsible technical work in the coordination, inspection, and enforcement of the nuisance and appearance ordinances regarding overgrown lots, rubbish/debris, appearance, and other violations. This is a part-time position (32 hours/week).
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
This is light work requiring the exertion of force up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to perform the physical activities of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform job related tasks. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and may be subject to the final standards on OSHA on blood borne pathogens.
TYPICAL TASKS
Inspects properties for compliance with overgrown lot and nuisance debris violations;
Photographs properties for evidence of violations;
Enforces overgrown lot and nuisance debris ordinance;
Enforces appearance ordinance;
Enforces junked/abandoned automobile ordinance;
Researches property owner information;
Writes and mails notifications, warning citations, fine citations, and other documents to public;
Tracks complaints and violators for record keeping and fine assessment and recovery;
Responds to inquiries and complaints from public regarding the city ordinances;
Conducts site measurements on properties;
Coordinates the release of properties to be cut/cleaned by the contractor and billed to owner;
May assist in field studies in conjunction with similar programs;
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
General knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) the nuisance and appearance ordinances; some ability to read a tax map or parcel map; some knowledge of the operation and use of computers and office equipment; must be able to drive city vehicle and operate a radio for communication from the field; skill in developing and organizing inspection and related data; ability to organize facts and present them clearly and concisely in written and oral form; ability to work effectively with other employees and the public; ability to carry out-on site inspections; determine violations and assist the public in meeting the regulations; ability to work with people in a friendly but firm manner, while providing efficient customer service excellence. Must be able to work independently and deal with challenging situations effectively!!
EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma; prefer a minimum of one to two years of college or technical school or some previous experience with administration and/or enforcement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
