2008 US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships

There are 184 Boys and Girls teams (ages 14-19) from the 11 states that make up the US Youth Soccer Region III (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, North and South Texas).

The winners of the Under-14 and the Under-19 brackets in this Region III tournament will earn a berth to the 2008 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

The games will be played in Wilson (J. Burt Gillette fields) and the WRAL Soccer Center in Raleigh. Opening ceremonies will be held at the RBC Center on June 19th.

The tournament is expected to bring over 9,500 visitors (and numerous vendors) to the Raleigh/Wilson area and is expected to generate over $4 million for the area. It is said to be one of the largest sporting events ever booked in the region.

The Wilson Police Department will be working security for the games in Wilson.

YOUTH of Wilson will be holding an event on Saturday, June 28^th at Wedgewood Park from 3:00 - 7:00pm. They are having a fun day for their volunteers and youth that they serve. They are going to play games and have a cookout. During this time, Officer Mooring from the WPD will come and give a short (approx. 30min.) talk on summer time safety.
