The Water Resources Department for the City of Wilson is comprised of three divisions that employ a combined total of over 100 employees. Each division plays a vital role in providing water and sewer services to the citizens of Wilson.
The Water Treatment division operates the city's 12 MGD Wiggins Mill and 10 MGD Toisnot Water Treatment Plants. This division is responsible for 4 storage lakes and dams, raw water pumping stations, water analysis, and elevated storage tanks. The Water Treatment division is dedicated to providing the citizens, businesses, and industries a safe and adequate supply of water.
The Water Infrastructure division is responsible for constructing and maintaining the city's water distribution, wastewater collection, re-use, and storm drainage systems. It provides special programs in I/I reduction, backflow prevention, leak detection, the hydrant program, meter program, hydraulic modeling, manhole rehabilitation, TV monitoring, flusher program, grease trap program, and utility locates.
The Water Reclamation division operates the city's 14 MGD Water Reclamation Facility using tertiary treatment to discharge clean water into Contentnea Creek. This division is responsible for enforcement of wastewater ordinances including permitting and pre-treatment programs for industrial users.
