Wilson Duck Derby

2014 Wilson Duck Derby

October 4th, 2014

Info coming soon.

To find out how to sponsor the event or participate as a non-profit partner, contact Daryl Norris at 252-296-3305 or dnorris@wilsonnc.org.

If you are not familiar with a Duck Derby, it is like a raffle but we let the rubber duckies decide the winner.  Each entry into the race will be given a race number that is marked on the bottom of a rubber ducky.  When the race begins, hundreds of rubber duckies will be launched into the creek below Toisnot Lake and will begin racing downstream toward the finish line.  If the duck with your number on it crosses the finish line first you win (prizes below), it’s that simple.

The Wilson Duck Derby is sponsored by Green Engineering, PLLC and the proceeds go to participating non-profits and the Wilson C.A.R.E.S. program.

The Wilson Duck Derby is partnering with the NC Big Sweep as well.  NC Big Sweep is a statewide stream cleanup effort that takes place the first Saturday of October each year.  Volunteers that want to help clean up the streams and waters should meet at Toisnot Lake at 9:00 am for instructions and supplies.

At 12:00 pm there will be vendors at the park with drinks and snacks, kids games, educational booths, and a design your own duck station by Arts Unlimited.  Also for anyone that designs their own duck at the Arts Unlimited studio before the race, Arts Unlimited will donate $5 to the Wilson C.A.R.E.S. program.  For more information on the design a duck visit http://www.arts-unltd.com/.

The race will begin at 2:00pm.

To adopt one or more ducks contact one of the participating non-profit organizations or contact Daryl Norris at 252-296-3305 or dnorris@wilsonnc.org; or come see our booth at the Wilson County Fair or First Friday on the Lawn October 4, 2013; or show up the day of the race at Toisnot Park between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.  You do not have to be present to win the main prizes but there will be lots of door prizes as well for those that are present.
