Personnel

Lieutenant Tad Shelton is the North District Commander. He is a native of Greene Co. and has been employed with the City of Wilson for 20 years. He holds a Batchelor’s Degree in Justice Studies from North Carolina Wesleyan College. He is an Administrative Officers Management Program (AOMP) Graduate of N.C. State University. Tad is currently responsible for the supervision of the North District, Barton College, and the WPD Honor Guard. He has had the pleasure of serving in many functions within the Wilson Police Department. His initial assignment was in the Uniformed Patrol Division in 1987. He was transferred to the Special Operations Division in 1994 to serve as a narcotics detective. In 1995, he moved into a general investigative position, specializing in white collar crimes. In 1997, Tad was given the opportunity to work as with the Burglary Task Force, concentrating on property crimes. In 1998, Shelton was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His first assignment was to supervise a patrol team. He later transferred back to the Special Operations Division where he served as the first line supervisor in the Street Crimes Unit. His next assignment came as a transfer to Barton College to set up a district office with the college. Tad was promoted to Lieutenant in 2003 and has served in the North District since his promotion.
