Barton College: The mission of the Barton District of the City of Wilson Police Department is to contribute toward the quality of life in and around Barton College by fostering a reasonably safe and secure environment in which; security is balanced with freedom of movement, individual rights are balanced with community needs, and the pursuit of learning, teaching, and research can take place.  Wilson City's Barton District Police Station is a full service police agency with full police powers

Public Information:  The Public Information Officer handles all contact with media representatives, coordinates community events on behalf of the police department, conducts research as directed by staff members, works in crime analysis, as well as other tasks assigned by staff.

Park Ranger: The Park Ranger is responsible for patrolling and enforcing laws and city ordinances on all City parks and recreational facilities.

Vice/Narcotics: This section is supervised by the Vice and Narcotics Sergeant and is responsible for the detection and apprehension of those involved in Vice/Narcotics criminal activities. This section is responsible for Career Criminal Identification and Asset Forfeiture.

ATF Liaison: This officer is responsible for following up on weapons violations that occur within our jurisdiction. This officer will coordinate with the ATF on federal prosecution of cases that meet necessary criteria.

 

US Marshal’s Task Force Liaison: This officer works in a dual role with the Wilson Police Department and the US Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force. 

 

Gang/Juvenile Unit: This unit is responsible for the identification and detection of gangs and gang members in the City. This officer also serves as the liaison for disseminating gang information to members of the Department and to other law enforcement agencies.

 

The Strategic Traffic Enforcement Patrol (S.T.E.P.) Unit: utilizes traffic enforcement resources to not only address traffic related concerns throughout the city, but also is effectively used in conjunction with other policing efforts to address ongoing crime trends and concerns in specific areas of the city.
